Beta Zeolite Properties
Beta zeolite catalyst combines large-pore access (12-MR, 6.6 x 6.7 A) with a fully 3D channel network and tunable acidity. The current catalogue covers SiO2/Al2O3 10-2000, BET above 400 m2/g, and 100-700 nm primary crystals for supplier evaluation.
Large-Pore Accessibility
The 12-MR 3D channel system accommodates aromatics, branched hydrocarbons, and heavy-feed intermediates that cannot enter medium-pore zeolites. The 3D network also reduces diffusion limitations compared to 1D or cage-based pore systems, which is particularly valuable in liquid-phase reactions.
Acidity
| Si/Al Range | Acid Site Density | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| 20 to 40 | High | Hydrocracking, alkylation |
| 50 to 100 | Moderate | Isomerization, aromatics conversion |
| 100 to 200 plus | Low | Coke-sensitive or hydrophobic applications |
Thermal Stability
Beta is stable to about 800 C dry but less hydrothermally stable than USY or ZSM-5. Not recommended for severe steam environments above 650 C without stabilisation. This limits its use in FCC but is acceptable for hydrocracking (high H2 pressure, moderate temperature).
