Cu-SSZ-13 Zeolite Catalyst
Cu-SSZ-13 is the global benchmark catalyst for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx in diesel exhaust. It combines >90% NOx conversion at 200 °C with the hydrothermal stability to survive repeated exposure to 800 °C+ during diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration — a performance combination no earlier copper-exchanged zeolite achieved.
What is Cu-SSZ-13?
Cu-SSZ-13 is the copper-exchanged form of the SSZ-13 zeolite (CHA framework). Copper ions occupy exchange sites inside the chabazite cages, where they are sterically protected against the migration and agglomeration that deactivated earlier Cu-zeolite SCR catalysts such as Cu-ZSM-5. The CHA cage structure is the basis for Cu-SSZ-13’s signature property: retention of >80% NOx conversion after standardised 800 °C/16-hour hydrothermal aging.

Available Grades
| Grade | SiO₂/Al₂O₃ | Cu Loading | Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cu-SSZ-13-12 | ~12 | 2.5-3.0 wt% | Light-duty diesel (Euro 6/EPA), maximum low-T activity |
| Cu-SSZ-13-18 | ~18 | 2.0-2.5 wt% | Heavy-duty diesel, enhanced hydrothermal durability |
Precursor H-form and NH₄-form SSZ-13 (SAR 6-30) is available for customers performing their own copper exchange. See the SSZ-13 product hub for precursor grades and SSZ-13 for SCR for grade selection guidance.
Key Performance Data
- NOx conversion at 200 °C: >90% fresh, >80% after 800 °C/16h aging
- Operating window: 150-550 °C at >80% conversion
- N₂ selectivity: >95% (minimises N₂O greenhouse gas)
- Hydrothermal stability: retains CHA crystallinity to 850 °C (dry), 750 °C (10% steam)
Each batch ships with a Certificate of Analysis covering XRD crystallinity, BET surface area, SiO₂/Al₂O₃, copper content, and particle size distribution.
