ZSM-5 for VOC Removal
ZSM-5 is widely used for VOC removal because high-silica MFI zeolite is hydrophobic, thermally stable, and selective for many organic molecules over water. This makes it useful in humid exhaust streams where activated carbon can lose capacity to water adsorption.
Best VOC Streams for ZSM-5
ZSM-5 is strongest for relatively small non-polar or weakly polar VOCs that fit its 10-membered-ring pore system:

For best water resistance, high Si/Al or very high-silica ZSM-5 grades are preferred. Higher Si/Al ratio reduces acid-site density and increases hydrophobicity, which is usually desirable for adsorption service.
Operating Notes
ZSM-5 VOC adsorbents are commonly regenerated by thermal swing operation at moderate temperature. The framework remains stable under repeated heating, and the non-flammable inorganic structure reduces hot-spot risk compared with activated carbon.
